Long Beach
Aquarium of the Pacific
Official At-Sea Programs
At-Sea programs
are designed to let 3-12 grade students get
hands-on experiences on the ocean. Aboard
the coast guard certified boat Conqueror,
your students will enjoy getting out on the
open ocean and learning about ocean ecology
and conservation. Students will be doing some
pretty sophisticated analysis of local marine
habitats during their research cruise. They
truly become oceanographers for the day as
they inspect ocean sediments, measure and
record the contents of a biological collection
using an otter trawl net, view marine plankton
and sieve burrowing benthic creatures. They
will compliment their voyage of discovery
with a comparative analysis of animals from
different habitats and climate zones as they
walk through the Aquarium of the Pacific's
exhibits and galleries.
Two Great Programs!
The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific is
a world-class aquarium in downtown Long Beach
featuring the habitats and sea creatures of
the Northern Pacific, Tropical Pacific and
Southern California/Baja regions. The extensive
live animal exhibits compliment Long Beach
Marine Institute's floating lab programs so
well, that the Aquarium chose LBMI to be the
official at-sea educational program provider
over dozens of other candidates. Come to Long
Beach and make a day of exploring the Pacific
with a visit to the Aquarium exhibits and
a research cruise aboard Conqueror or Challenger. You can
choose from the popular "Oceanographer
for a Day" program or the new "Pacific
Explorer" program which includes
a whale watch when scheduled between January
2 and March 31. |
